Pedigree Dog Food Recall – Must Read for all Dog Owners
Mars Petcare, the manufacturer of Pedigree dog food, has expanded a recent recall of Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food to include 55-pound bags sold at Sam’s Club stores in these three Midwestern states: Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. These bags may contain small metal fragments that may present a risk of injury if consumed.
The original recall was announced on August 26th to alert the public about 22 bags shipped to Dollar General stores in Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana. According to the press release published on the FDA website, Mars Petcare said, “Today, Mars Petcare US announced a voluntary recall of 22 bags of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food products due to the possible presence of a foreign material. The bags were produced in one manufacturing facility, and shipped to one retail customer. The facility production line has been shut down until this issue is resolved.”
For a full list of the original 12 Dollar General stores in Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana where the bags were sold between August 18 and August 25, read about the first recall here.
Mars Petcare expanded the recall to include Sam’s Club in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana because the affected bags were mistakenly released to consumers instead of being held in inventory. They are confident no additional packages or retailers are affected by this recall and have not received any reports of injury or illness related to the affected bags of food.
The metal fragments are not embedded in the food but may be loose in the bag. When you fill your dog’s bowl with food, the fragments could slip into the bowl and present a risk of injury if consumed. Mars Petcare asks consumers who bought any affected bags of dog food to stop using it and (1) throw it away or (2) return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund or exchange.
