The North American unit of German tire maker Continental AG announced on Wednesday that they are recalling 3,800 Continental ContiProContact P205/65 R15 95T XL passenger vehicle tires because of defective treads. These tires were manufactured in February 2015 and sold in the replacement market only.
Although Continental says it hasn’t received any reports of accidents or injuries resulting from these defective tires, a driver reported an incident where the tire’s tread became separated from the rubber.
The recalled tires can be identified with the Department of Transportation (DOT) code VY UR 471B 0615 and the production DOT week 0615. No other tires are affected by this recall.
The company is talking with its tire distributors and dealers to determine the consumers who purchased these tires so Continental AG can notify the owners and inform them about the details of the voluntary safety recall program.
Kathryn Blackwell, a spokeswoman for the company, said the incident involving the ContiProContact P205/65 R15 95T XL model tire — which can fit cars, minivans and SUVs — resulted from an improper mix of rubber components during production that didn’t allow the tread to bond properly
