Clif Bar recalls certain products for possibly containing plastic bits – Clif Bars voluntarily recalled certain products this week for concern that they could contain bits of plastic. According to the company’s website, the product labeled “Chocolate Hazelnut Butter CLIF® Nut Butter Filled energy bars” has the potential to contain the plastic bits. The company added that no injuries have been reported as a result of this potential plastic contamination.
Publix recalls mixes; cites powdered milk Salmonella problem – The Publix Super Markets grocery chain is recalling some of its pancake and waffle mixes because powdered milk in them may be contaminated with Salmonella. Publix officials initiated the recall after the supplier of the powdered milk notified them about the possible contamination, according to a notice posted on the grocery chain’s website Wednesday.
Consumers are urged to check their homes for the recalled pancake and waffle mixes. Anyone who has any of the recalled mixes should return them to the place of purchase for a refund or discard them. The recalled mixes should not be used.
Yankee Candle recalls luminous candles due to laceration hazard – This recall involves Yankee Candle’s Luminous Collection fragrance candles. The square glass candles contain a fragrant wax with three wicks. The item number is printed on the bottom of the glass candle jar. The recalled candles are approximately 4 inches wide by 5 inches high. The firm has received 16 reports of the glass jar cracking. No injuries have been reported.
Tesla is recalling thousands of adapters for charging electric vehicles – About 7,000 adapters used to charge electric vehicles will be recalled by Tesla Motors TSLA -1.12% after the company received reports that the product had overheated. According to Bloomberg, the voluntary recall followed two customer reports that the rarely used item had malfunctioned, resulting in melted plastic. No other damage was reported, and the company said it has informed U.S. regulators of its decision to recall.
National Steak and Poultry recall nearly 2M pounds of chicken – After initially recalling 17,349 pounds of chicken, Oklahoma-based National Steak and Poultry has expanded its announcement to include an additional 1,976,089 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken that may be under-cooked.
Oriental Packing Co. recalls more curry spice because of lead – Oriental Packing Co. Inc. is again recalling spice products because of lead, this time pulling back an undisclosed amount of curry powder. In August the Miami company recalled almost 200 tons of blended curry spices because of lead contamination. The new recall involves Oriental brand and OCHO-RIOS brand curry powder, according to the recall notice posted Wednesday on the Food and Drug Administration’s website.
While FDA has not set a specific limit for lead in spices, the agency does have a limit of 0.1 parts per million (ppm) on lead in candy. The Environmental Protection Agency considers lead levels of 0.015 ppm in drinking water too high for human consumption.
